First Tuesday Educational Seminar

Eric Dickerson will be speaking on local sustainable food resources at the First Tuesday Educational Seminar from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Dickerson will discuss what is produced in Nevada County, how to find local food, how to become involved with local agriculture as a customer or a farmer and why supporting locally produced food is important.

He will explain how to get a full year’s enjoyment out of our seasonally available local crops, what you can grow yourself easily and the guidelines for navigating the legality of buying locally produced meat, eggs and diary.

Dickerson is a local small farmer and partner with Urth Organic, an organic microbial fertilizer company based in Grass Valley. He is a lead organizer of the Nevada County Sustainable Food and Farm Conference, a former board member of Nevada County Grown and a local sustainable food advocate and activist.

On their five acre farm in Rough and Ready, the Dickerson family grows, produces or processes 70 to 80 percent of what they consume, from canning veggies and fruits, to raising their own meat and eggs, all the way to making butter, cheese and soap. This seminar is sponsored by the Nevada County Democrats.
