Firefighters will be honored

The United Methodist Churches of the North Gold Circuit will observe the second annual Firefighter Appreciation Sunday. Worship times are 8:30 a.m. in North San Juan, 10:30 a.m. in Downieville, and noon in Sierra City.

All members of the volunteer fire departments in Alleghany, Camptonville, Downieville, North San Juan, Pike and Sierra City, along with the fire crews of the Downieville Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service, and their families, have been invited to attend the service that is most convenient for them.

Rev. Paul Guffin, pastor of the three churches, will preach on “Heroes by the Handful,” based on the story of Gideon in Judges 7:1-8. A hymn that Guffin wrote for the observance last year will be sung by the congregations.
