Local firefighters squash residential structure fire on Carrington Lane

Firefighters contained a residential structure fire early Wednesday morning. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, according to a press release.

Nevada County Consolidated, Grass Valley, Ohpir Hill, Penn Valley, Higgins and Cal Fire engine crews were called out at around 1250 a.m. Wednesday for a reported structure fire.

When fire crews responded to the scene the structure was fully involved with fire and had spread to some nearby vegetation.

Crews were able to stop the spread of the fire into the surrounding wildland, and the structure was a total loss.

Four water tenders and 10 fire engines responded to the blaze; fire personnel were released from the scene at 5:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported to the family or fire ground personnel.

According to Emergency Command officials, a small grass fire sparked up adjacent to the contained structure around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, but was squashed by 9 a.m.

Upon arrival of fire crews it was reported that the structure was fully involved with fire and had spread to the wildland. Crews were quickly able to stop the spread of the fire into the vegetation and their attention was turned to extinguishing what was left of the structure.

Fire units contained the small grass fire adjacent to the structure fire that was squashed earlier this morning. That structure fire, though, is still under investigation.

8:50 a.m.

Local firefighters are currently responding to a reported grass fire near Carrington Lane and Allison Ranch Road in Grass Valley. The fire may have been sparked from a residential structure fire units contained in the same area earlier this morning, Emergency Command officials said.

Nevada County Consolidated, Grass Valley, Ophir Hill, Penn Valley and Cal Fire units responded to the report of a residential structure fire near Carrington Lane and Allison Ranch Road around 12:50 a.m. today.

Upon arrival the structure was fully involved. Firefighters contained the fire by 3 a.m.

Emergency Command officials said no medical ambulance was dispatched to the scene.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
