Fire hazard main flaw of housing plan

The Grass Valley Planning Commission has approved the building of three homes on parcel # 108.170-51 on Jill Road. There are several flaws in this plan, but the most obvious is fire hazard.

One of the homes will be approximately 1,200 feet off Jill Road with only one way out. This is a wooded area and is not suitable for a cul-de-sac. Any fire between site one and Jill Road would trap those in the house; in fact, trap all of those in all the homes.

Until property is developed, there is no access for fire equipment, no road, no turnaround, etc. We cannot imagine the fire department even being aware of this approval. We would appreciate a written report from the fire department before any work is allowed.

There are only two homes on Jill Road. The reason, we believe, is that up until now, Jill Road was considered unsuitable for subdivision. We cannot believe that the people who approved this project were fully informed as the problems it would create.

We know the owner is an engineer, but to just accept his opinions without question or review is not right.

This project calls for maximum liability insurance because, as planned, it will require excessive digging and grading. Due to the potential of fire, $5 to $10 million seems appropriate.
