Films, speakers to focus on food at APPLE event

Three films about food will be shown by APPLE of Nevada County, starting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. “The True Cost of Food” and “Grocery Store Wars: The Organic Rebellion” are two animated shorts. The third film, “Holy Cows, Hog Heaven,” features ecological farmer Joel Salatin describing his innovative approach to farming that is profitable, healthful, and environmentally sustainable. At 7:30 p.m., guest speakers, one an organic farmer and permaculture consultant and the other a farm advisor for the U.C. Cooperative Extension in the county, will take the floor.

The event is free, although donations will be accepted. It will be held in Grass Valley at the Olympia Glade Mobile Home Park community room, 918 Pampas Dr. (Directions: Take Olympia Park Circle between The Union building and the Glenbrook Plaza Shopping Center, past the Brunswick Village (assisted living) and into the mobile home park; to the right is the administrative building and community room).
