Fill your bowl, help the homeless

Area potters have been making bowls like crazy – 300, in fact – to donate to the Empty Bowl Soup Supper Friday at the Nevada City Elks Hall on Hwy. 49. This is a benefit for Hospitality House for the homeless.

“It’s always exciting to see the wide variety of bowls our potters make for this event,” says Chic Lotz, a potter who teaches at the Mud Hut in Nevada City and who is donating several bowls of her own. “Each potter has a different style and color palette.

“Ticket holders pick a handmade bowl to fill with soup from local restaurants for their supper, reminding us that most of the world’s population has a mere bowl of soup or rice for their entire day’s meal,” Lotz says.

Take note, though, only advance ticket holders are assured of a bowl to take home.

Local musicians will provide entertainment.

Tickets for $20 are available at The Book Seller, Booktown Books and BriarPatch, all in Grass Valley; or Harmony Books in Nevada City. Children under 17 are admitted for free. You can also pay at the door.

The supper is 5:30 to 8 p.m. Call (530) 271-7144 for more information.
