Fiddler Laura Cortese returns for gig

Thanks to a strong connection with San Juan Ridge Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser, Boston-based Laura Cortese will bring her Celtic trio to Nevada City this Wednesday.

A former San Francisco student of Fraser’s, Cortese plays Scottish fiddle and vocals with Halali, a fiddle trio, and stepdances with Washington, D.C.-based Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble. She is also a Wellesley College staff member.

“Laura Cortese is an extremely dynamic and intelligent artist full of joy and fun,” Fraser said Monday. Fraser will miss the show; he will be on tour in Spain during her visit here.

Cortese will be joined Wednesday by guitarist Flynn Cohen and cellist Valerie Thompson at the Nevada City house concert. Admission is $10, which goes to the musicians.
