Farm Bureau endorses LaMalfa for Senate

Candidate Doug LaMalfa has won the California Farm Bureau Federation endorsement for state Senate.

LaMalfa, a Republican, seeks election to the 4th Senate District seat representing all or part of a dozen Northern California counties: Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Nevada, Placer, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity and Yuba.

A fourth-generation rice farmer from Richvale, LaMalfa served three terms in the state Assembly, where he compiled a strong voting record on behalf of family farmers and ranchers.

“Anyone who has ever met Doug LaMalfa will know right away that he makes the future of agriculture a top priority,” California Farm Bureau President Paul Wenger said. “As a family farmer who has had to cope with the layer upon layer of regulation that farms, ranches and other businesses face, he recognizes the urgent need to improve the state’s business climate and protect its rural communities.”

Wenger noted that LaMalfa consistently voted in the Legislature to support private property rights and to enhance California water supplies.

“The state Senate needs more members like Doug LaMalfa, who understand the crucial role that new storage will play in assuring reliable and affordable water for people, crops and the environment,” Wenger said. “He was a strong and effective voice for rural California in the state Assembly and he will make an excellent state senator.”

The California Farm Bureau Federation works to protect family farms and ranches on behalf of 81,000 members statewide and as part of a nationwide network of more than 6.2 million Farm Bureau members.
