Four students from 3R School rebuilt bikes and donated them to Sierra Nevada Children’s Services through the Seven Hills School Bicycle Recycle program. The Ladies Guild of St. Canice Church in Nevada City, held a baby shower in July to benefit clients of the Livingwell Medical Clinic in Grass Valley. The Drop Dead Gorgeous Mad Hatters chapter of the Red Hat Society met for lunch at the Holbrooke Hotel recently – and all of them managed to find a red hat to wear to the affair. Five members of the Boy Scout Troop 855 in Grass Valley completed a 30-foot jump from the Cliff Jumping Rock at Camp Winton on Bear River Reservoir this month. Catching some sun after the jump are (left to right) Jeff Litton, Josh Orman, Kurtis Saiyo, Tanner Ketcham and Bryan Christensen.

Western Nevada County residents (from left) Ryan Giacomini, Andrea Goodnight, Sandy Croft and his son, Ben, visited Arlington National Cemetery this summer to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Parents and students from Magnolia Middle School have made an annual summer trip to Washington, D.C., for 17 years.

Ellie McCrea of Grass Valley seems to be pleased with the free tree seedling she received when she visited the California Forest Center at the California State Fair in Sacramento Aug. 19. The state fair runs through Monday.
