Expansion at hospital to begin in spring

Expansion at Sierra Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley is expected to start this spring after a special governmental approval this morning.

The Nevada County Irrigation District annexed two properties next to the hospital to ensure water for the new outpatient imaging and women’s center medical office. Hospital spokesman Gary Cooke said grading could start March 1, with construction of the building this summer, weather permitting.

The approval by the Local Agency Formation Commission paves the way for phase one of the hospital’s overall expansion project, expected to be complete by 2013. The commission also said NID’s idea to annex other area parcels in the future would not be allowed unless it submits a sphere of influence plan by January 1, 2006.
