Mini Cooper car show runs Saturday

Close to 100 BMW Mini Coopers and other classic British cars including MG Midgets, Sprites, Morris Minors and Mokes will be at Mini Mania’s car show Saturday.

Mini Mania, a Nevada City supplier of Mini Cooper parts and accessories, celebrates 30 years in business this weekend.

The car show is at 870 Gold Flat Road from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will start at 1:30 p.m.; cake and door prizes will be given away between 2 and 4 p.m.

On Sunday, a “Fun Run” drive consisting of about 30 cars begins 10 a.m. at the Gold Flat location and continues on Highway 20 east to Old Highway 40 to the Donner Memorial State Historic Park.

Plants, crafts and

a flea market in one

More than 30 vendors will set up booths Sunday at the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center’s annual Plant Sale & Flea Market.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., vendors will sell plants, herbs, flowers, jewelry, soap, clothes and other handmade crafts, refreshments and beverages.

The Schoolhouse is at 17894 Tyler Foote Road on the San Juan Ridge.

Nevada City Winery celebrates 24 years

Nevada City Winery will celebrate 24 years of wine-making Saturday and Sunday in Nevada City with a bottle-your-own-wine party, Merlot vertical tasting and complimentary wine and barrel tastings.

Winemaker Mark Foster has blended together two barrels each of a 2002 Cabernet Blend and a 2001 Zinfandel for the “bottle-your-own” party which is $10 for the zinfandel and $12 for the cabernet blend.

The Merlot vertical tasting (same wine made in different years) will feature 1987, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2000 vintages. Vertical tasting admission is $5.

In conjunction with the Nevada City Jazz and R&B Festival which concludes Saturday, Paul Ong will play jazz music that afternoon during the celebration. Chef Antonio Ayesteran of Alta Sierra Country Club will provide hors d’oeuvres both days.

The anniversary celebration will run 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Nevada City Winery’s tasting room is at 321 Spring St. in Nevada City. The Tasting Room is open Mondays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
