Ethel Collier

A private family burial for Ethel Rankin Collier of Grass Valley will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at Greenwood Memorial Garden Cemetery in Grass Valley. Pastor Andy Owens will officiate.

Mrs. Collier died Sunday, Sept. 19, in Grass Valley. She was 94.

She was born May 5, 1910, in New England, N.D., to Herman and Agnes (Boettcher) Fredericks. She married Del Collier on July 18, 1969, in Reno, Nev. She was a registered nurse, and worked at Community Miner’s, County and Dewitt hospitals, retiring in 1969 from Weimar Medical Center. She enjoyed gardening, and often spent her days off shopping for her patients.



She is survived by her sons Paul Rankin of Grass Valley and Ray Rankin of Carmel; brother, Dr. Edgar Fredericks of Virginia; grandchildren Chris Brumfield and Katie Granholm of Grass Valley, Joanne Pugh of Auburn, Mike Rankin of Bakersfield, and Janet North and Mike Rankin of Seattle; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Del Collier; parents, Herman and Agnes Fredericks; and brothers Edward and Harry Fredericks.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
