Esther Connell

Private family services will be conducted for Esther Goss Connell of Grass Valley.

Mrs. Connell died Sunday, Sept. 8, in Grass Valley. She was 90.



She was born on June 14, 1912, in Lanham, Md., to Willard and Beulah Goss. She attended the University of Maryland and then graduated from Santa Barbara State Teachers College. She married Lawrence D. Connell on Aug. 4, 1937, in Reno. She was a bookkeeper for the Mound Elementary School. She was a member of the Venture I-DA-KA’s, La Estrella Dance Club and United First Methodist Church in Ventura. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, gardening and camping.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence D. Connell, of Grass Valley; son and daughter-in-law, David L. and Dianna Connell of Grass Valley; daughters and sons-in-law Anne and Bob Gleason of Hilo, Hawaii, and Kathy and Eric Beals of Albany; sisters Jean Johnes of Delano and Marguerite Benedict of Easton, Md.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.




She was preceded in death by her brothers, Willard and Lee Goss.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills or United First Methodist Church in Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
