Ernest Lewis Jr.

Services for Ernest Allen Lewis Jr. of Penn Valley will be at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Grass Valley, 1866 Ridge Road. A reception will follow.

He died Monday, Jan. 14.



He was born Dec. 8, 1919, in Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Marines.




He was a baseball pitcher and an English teacher. He was an area commander of the California Highway Patrol in the Marysville, Yuba City and Truckee areas. He was a 32-degree Mason, a Shriner and a Clamper.

He is survived by his daughters Dr. Barbara E. Jacobsen and Christine M. Lewis, son, Richard A. Lewis; grandchildren and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Jane Lewis, in 1997.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Sacramento.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary of Grass Valley.
