Encourage young people in their quest

Growing up in Nevada County in the 1960s offered challenges different, but akin to, the experiences of kids in today’s era. Too often we forget how it “will be” and reflect on the way it “use to be.”

Last year, I had the fortune of presenting ideas to the NUHS Partnership Academy, suggesting outreach for senior projects into the nonprofit and service sectors. What a thrill to walk the campus halls this year and see the stretch this graduating class has extended to our society amid projects connecting with senior citizens, grade school sports, the homeless and, less auspicious, domestic violence.

These students are true service-to-others advocates. Could it be 40 developmental assets at work in our high school district or a class feeling the strain on our economy and the need for resiliency and responsibility as soon-to-be adults and contributors of our rural locale?

Working with youth development, I see first-hand the ability of young people who flourish when they receive positive accolades.

NUHS seniors, way to go! I am looking forward to the changes you bring to our community and the world with your social competency and allegiance to others. Encourage these young citizens in their quest!
