Elmer Downer

A celebration of life for Elmer Lee Downer of Grass Valley will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.

Mr. Downer died Friday, March 25, in Grass Valley. He was 77.

He was born May 26, 1927, in Prescott, Ariz., to Elmer Downer and Laura Stidham. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic during World War II. He married Sharon D. Olney in 1974 in Reno, Nev. He was a member of the Nevada Masonic Lodge Oasis No. 041, CAP Major Easter Star Blossom Hill 288 San Jose, Air Search and Rescue Major in the Civil Air Patrol, and the Drum and Feathers Native American Southern Drum. He had some of his poems published. He enjoyed guitar, flying, leather work, four-wheeling, motorcycles, dancing, treasure hunts and gold mining.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon D. Downer of Grass Valley; daughter, Stephanie B. Downer of Grass Valley; sons Mark L. Downer of Yuba City and Mike L. Downer of Meridian, Idaho; stepsons Randell S. Valley of Rancho Cordova and Daryl A. Valley of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters Mildred Pettit and Marie Caraway, both of Arizona; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
