Elizabeth Hayes

Elizabeth A. Hayes, 90, of Grass Valley died Wednesday, Jan. 2, in Grass Valley.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. Burial will be at Oceanview Cemetery in Boothbay, Maine.

Mrs. Hayes was born Aug. 23, 1911, in Boothbay to Vernon and Edna Hardwick. She graduated in 1929 from Boothbay High School and also from a cosmetology school in Boston.



She was a cosmetologist with Helena Rubenstein and Elizabeth Arden in Boston and San Francisco for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Hayes was a volunteer with the Cancer Society and a member of the Patchwork Pal’s Quilt Club and Grace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading and socializing.




She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Annelies Hayes of Grass Valley; son, Douglas F. Hayes of Elliot, Maine; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hayes of Hilton Head, S.C.; sister, Eleanor Forbes of Rockland, Maine; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Barclay E. Hayes, in 1994; and grandson, Grant Hayes.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
