Elinor Thiel

Visitation for family and friends of Elinor Marie Thiel will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.

Mrs. Thiel died Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Grass Valley. She was 85.

She was born April 20, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Simon Nielsen and Marie Wessel-Olsen. She married Walter James Thiel on May 8, 1943. She was a homemaker, and raised her family in Hicksville, N.Y. She retired to Woodstock, N.Y. and then to Port Richey, Fla. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.



She is survived by her sons Bruce W. Thiel of Pleasanton, Wayne W. Thiel of Ashburn, Va., and Dr. Glenn W. Thiel of Grass Valley; grandchildren Holly, Mindy, Graham, Shannon, Gavin, and Chrystin. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Walter James Thiel in 1993.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
