EILEEN SOARES | TheUnion.com

Eileen Soares of Grass Valley died June 16 after a very short battle with lung cancer. She was 88. Most would say that cancer won, but those who knew her know that she died on her own terms.

A celebration of life service will be held, on a date to be determined, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael. Please call 271-5635 for details.

Consummate cook and entertainer, she shopped to keep her kitchen stocked and gift drawer full. The twinkle in her eyes promised food, fun and merriment. With the luck of the Irish she enjoyed trips to casinos, bingo and bunco.

Eileen is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Jerry Faircloth of Grass Valley; grandchildren Shawn Silva of Roseville, Eric Silva of Rocklin, and Christina Salinas of Rough and Ready; seven great-grandchildren and a large circle of friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, and her loving husband, Frank Soares, a veteran and former co-owner and manager of the Bulltail Ranch in Marin County.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
