Edward Beeley

Services for Edward Gage Beeley of Grass Valley will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Nevada City Methodist Church.

Mr. Beeley died Sunday, Feb. 16, in Grass Valley. He was 85.

He was born on March 30, 1918, in Lawrence, Mass., to Leon and Sarah Beeley.

He graduated from Occidental College with a B.A. in 1939.

He served during World War II at the Los Angeles Induction Center as an Army staff sergeant and in the Medical Detachment 1961st/Service Comm. Unit at Ft. MacArthur. He was discharged on Feb. 18, 1946.

He married Elizabeth North on Nov. 27, 1952. He worked for the Better Business Bureau for 30 years.

He was a member of the Burbank and Nevada City Methodist churches and was a choir member until 1998. He was also a member of the Sierra Club.

He enjoyed table tennis, tennis, swimming, motorcycle riding, camping, daily walks and live musical performances.

He is survived by his son, Bruce Beeley of Nevada City; daughter, Kay Beeley of Los Alamos, N.M.; and granddaughters Kaya Beeley of Oakland and Abigale Grace of Port Townsend, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Dorothy Marsh in 1995 and Virginia Fogg in 1995; and brother, Richard Beeley in 1930.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada City Methodist Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
