NID offers 6-month internships in way of district scholarship program
Nevada Irrigation District has taken the lead in piloting a six-month paid internship via the Nevada Joint Union High School District scholarship program, by offering two scholarships to be awarded to the Class of 2019 and setting a trend for more local businesses to follow suit.
This year, graduating seniors within the school district were offered the opportunity to submit their district scholarship application and their letter of interest to NID through the district’s Scholarship Coordinator Kimala DeSena.
Organized by NID Human Resources Director Jana Kolakowski, department managers at NID recently hosted an informal presentation to interested scholarship applicants about the history, purpose and future of the District. Insight into the different district divisions and careers were shared and the overall career outlook in water and hydroelectric agencies.
The next step will be a half-day tour of the hydroelectric facility, as well as other NID locations, to give the interested candidates a hands-on view of potential internship positions possible with NID. Last step will be a panel interview before NID decides who the two final recipients will be chosen.
Recipients will be awarded at their school’s awards night next month in May.
Interested businesses or organizations that would like to know more about offering local scholarships to the NJUHSD high school sites, should contact DeSena for more information at 530-273-3351, ext. 224, or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
