Editorial bias?

I’m confused and dismayed by The Union’s position regarding Bruce Conklin and the North Star House. I don’t know Bruce Conklin personally, I’ve only met him once. I do know that he has worked very hard for the good of our community for years as an elected official. His name in the past has always represented integrity, his reputation was sterling. Why is The Union going after him to tarnish this reputation?

I also recognize that Mr. Conklin has a skill set that would give him gainful employment at any number of lucrative positions. I believe that he risked going out on a limb for the North Star project because he is dedicated to community service and wanted to see an irreplaceable treasure preserved. Rule number one in historic preservation is to get a solid roof over the building. “Mothballing” the house would have been a temporary solution and in my opinion a waste of funds.

I find it curious that The Union is stirring up this particular pot on the eve of an election. Why now and not two years ago? I am extremely disappointed in The Union’s editorial staff for such a vitriolic and unsubstantiated attack.
