Visitation for family and friends of Edith Marie Skalko of Grass Valley will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. A rosary will be recited there at 7 p.m. Thursday.

A Mass will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grass Valley. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Skalko died Saturday, Sept. 28, in Grass Valley. She was 101.

She was born Dec. 20, 1900, in San Francisco to Louis and Marie Favero. She married Nick Skalko in San Francisco.

She was a floor lady in the dried-fruit industry at the Mariani Schluckle Cannery. She also owned the Blue Bonnet Cafeteria in Sunnyvale. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and cooking.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Sharon Skalko of Grover Beach; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Janet and Matt Smith of Grass Valley; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, David and Terry Bassett of Rochester, N.Y.; great-grandsons Liam Bassett and Mike Smith; and great-granddaughter, Valerie Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1963; son, Louis Skalko in 1979; and daughter, Edie Bassett in 1980.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
