Bear River High School’s dance department performs its 11th annual Celebration of Dance for three performances starting tonight.

The show is the culmination of all the work done in Dance I and Dance II this school year and includes eight dance pieces choreographed by seven Dance II students. The special guest choreography includes Barbara Chatelain, formerly of the New York City Ballet; Gaia Weiss, a graduate of Nevada Union and Long Beach State and Sarah Keller, who was active in bringing “Tribal Fusion” dance to the Nevada County community for many years.

The second half of the show consists of a contemporary ballet and one extended piece, a retrospective that begins with Beat Poetry and moves through the Civil Rights Movement to the Vietnam War to the “Summer of Love,” ending with the song Imagine by John Lennon.
