Earth Day Festival at Ananda Dhiira

Ananda Dhiira is hosting the Second Community Earth Day Festival from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The spirit of the event is to bring the community together to honor the blessing that we share one Earth and that we together can make it a better planet for all.

Throughout the day, a variety of programs will be offered on ecology, health and spirituality.

Ananda Dhiira – Center for Spirituality and Wellbeing is at 19393 Sanctuary Road, Penn Valley, adjacent to the South Yuba River State Park at Bridgeport.

The center is a nonprofit spiritual center practicing sustainable living and Universal Love based on spiritual foundation.

Ananda Dhiira was awarded “Conservationist of the Year 2007” for its creek restoration project started in 2005. Both sides of the part of Kentucky creek flowing through Ananda Dhiira was overgrown by miles of thick walls of blackberry. The creek was hidden and not accessible.

In the past few years, after removing invasive Himalayan blackberry and other invasive weeds, over 50,000 native grasses of 12 species and over 400 native trees, shrubs and forbs of 26 varieties were planted along the creek. It is a consistent and persistent effort to restore the ecological balance of the land and to preserve wildlife habitat of the region.

The vision has been extended to create an eco-meditation garden for the community.
