Downieville Inn wiped out by blaze

Investigators are looking into a fire that leveled the Downieville Inn this week and severely damaged a home next door.

Sierra County Sheriff’s Lt. Lou Foxworthy today said state fire investigators were at the scene Wednesday, combing through the rubble.

No one was hurt in either building but both were occupied when the fire was called in at 9:09 p.m. Tuesday. A dog owned by an inn occupant was killed.

The inn and home are located on Highway 49 on the left side of the road just as you enter the Downieville business district coming north from Nevada County, Foxworthy said.
