Dorothy Bachanas

Dorothy Bachanas died July 22 at her home in Penn Valley. She was 84.

The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Monday, July 28, at St. Canice Catholic Church in Nevada City. A memorial mass will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, at St. Canice Catholic Church.

Mrs. Bachanas was born Jan. 7, 1924, in Elmhearst, N.Y., to Robert and Mary Farrell. She attended business school. She married Vincent Bachanas on Nov. 3, 1951, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chatham, N.J.



She was a member of the Collectibelles and Newcomers, and enjoyed cooking, gardening and collecting.

Mrs. Bachanas is survived by her husband, Vince Bachanas of Penn Valley; sons Vince Bachanas Jr. of San Jose and Rob Bachanas of Sacramento; grandsons Geoff Bachanas of Newport and Cameron McDonald of Highland; granddaughters Abby Bachanas of San Jose and Jennifer Pryor of Frankfurt, Germany; daughter, Karen McDonald of Highland; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.




She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Farrell; father, Robert Farrell, and brother, Robert Farrell.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) Nevada County, c/o Abigail Weissman, 341 Empire Court, #341, Grass Valley, CA 95945. Write in memo line “In memory of Dorothy Bachanas.”

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
