Doris Hawks

Services for Doris Hawks of Oceanside will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier.

Mrs. Hawks died Friday, Jan. 30, in Oceanside. She was 93.

She was born June 18, 1910, in Columbus, Ohio, to Arthur and Idessa Moore. She married Franklin “Ben” Hawks May 29, 1930, in Monroe, Mich. She received a diploma from the Business Institute in Detroit, Mich., in 1927. She worked as a secretary for Burlington Industries for 17 years before retiring to Grass Valley in 1974. In 1982, she and her husband moved to Valley Center. After his death in 1984, she moved to Oceanside. She enjoyed fellowship at Ambassador Family Church, reading scripture, homemaking and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Oscar “Nick” Ortiz; daughter-in-law, Clastine Hawks of Vallejo; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and one niece. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Franklin “Ben” Hawks, in 1984; son, Franklin “Deane” Hawks in 1999; and daughter, Dori Hawks in 2003.
