Doolittle visits Nevada City, says he’s ‘encouraged’ by people he’s met

Rep. John Doolittle (R-Roseville) visited the Stonehouse in Nevada City Tuesday afternoon. The longtime incumbent is running in a hot race against challenger Charlie Brown (D-Roseville) to represent District 4.

At a luncheon hosted by the California Association of Business, Property and Resource Owners, Doolittle said he has been “very encouraged” by people he met on the campaign trail recently, adding his bid for a ninth term in the U.S. House has been criticized by “carping leftists.”

Doolittle discussed war in Iraq, the economy and other topics at the banquet on the upper level of the restaurant. He said he “still believe(s) they will find the WMD” in Iraq and also that “gasoline prices have plummeted.”

Asked if he has denied being under investigation by the Department of Justice for his dealings with criminal lobbyist Jack Abramoff and others, the congressman said he “denied that they (DOJ) ever interviewed me.”
