Don Brewer

J. “Don” Brewer died peacefully Oct. 15 at home in Nevada City with his family by his side. He was 78.

There will be private services at a later date.

Don was born on June 23, 1932, in Long Beach, Calif., to Earl and Pearl Brewer.

After attending Wilson High School, he became a proud United States Marine and served during the Korean War from 1950-54.

In 1966, he married Audrey Thompson and became “Dad” to her five children. The family moved to Nevada City in 1971.

Don retired from the construction industry but never retired from searching for antiques. Don spent most weekends “yard selling” with “Fast Eddie” at his side.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; children, Robert Thompson Brewer, Tyler Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Dana Aplington and Holly Mancino; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Brumm.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Brewer; and twin sister, Esther Smith.
