Do you remember?

Do you remember when the Taliban in Afghanistan offered to negotiate with the U.S. about turning over Osama Bin Laden? President Bush refused to talk and ordered an invasion of Afghanistan (cbsnews.com).

Do you remember when UN inspectors in Iraq repeatedly failed to find any “weapons of mass destruction,” and Colin Powell failed to convince the U.N. to authorize military force in Iraq? President Bush went ahead and ordered an invasion of Iraq.

Now after nearly seven years of conflict, Afghanistan is in turmoil. The Taliban are dodging NATO and Afghan troops, waging a violent resistance. U.S. servicemen are being killed, along with innocent Afghan civilians.

Now after over four years of conflict, Iraq suffers daily carnage. Insurgents are dodging U.S. and Iraqi government troops, waging a violent sectarian civil war. U.S. servicemen are being killed, along with innocent Iraqi civilians.

With two wars continuing indefinitely, Osama Bin Laden, the man responsible for the reprehensible 9/11 attack, is still unaccounted for and, since no “weapons of mass destruction” were ever found in Iraq, the U.S. has officially ended the search for them.

Do you remember when this death and destruction could have been averted?
