District 1 conversation

Over the last couple of months I have been fortunate to meet both the candidates for District 1 supervisor, Nate Beason and Olivia Diaz. Both candidates come across as well-educated on the subjects important to the district.

However, when I asked Ms. Diaz if she was a supporter of law enforcement, she said she was and even pointed out her literature in which she is shown with a police car. I then asked her if she was so supportive of law enforcement, why has the Nevada County Deputy Sheriff’s Association endorsed Mr. Beason instead of her? This question really flustered her and she finally said, “I don’t know. I guess that’s because I’m more moderate, more to the left than they are.”

I told her that I felt her campaign literature is blatantly false, as she implies support as regards law enforcement. I believe that her being hand-picked and endorsed by Peter Van Zant is an indicator that there will be no support of law enforcement by Ms. Diaz, as there was none by Mr. Van Zant.
