An Inner Sanctum book store in Nevada City is sponsoring a book signing Friday for “Master of the Mysteries, the Life of Manly Palmer Hall” by Louis Sahagun.

It will be held at the Nevada City Masonic Temple at 108 1/2 N. Pine Street starting at 7 p.m.

Manley Hall was an incredible thinker, “the spiritual equivalent of the California dream” who arrived in Los Angeles at a time when the City was run by wild bohemian visionaries who became totally tuned-in to Manly Hall as a “one-stop scholar of ancient ideas,” according to Sahagun.

Manly Hall studied Hinduism, Greek philosophy and Christian mysticism. He began speaking at the Church of the People in downtown Los Angeles about such subjects as Rosecrucianism and Theosophy and the teachings of Pythegoras, Confucious and Plato.

In 1934, Hall founded the nonprofit Philosophical Research Society and built a Mayan-inspired center with a library and auditorium near Griffith Park that is still active today. Manly Hall is probably best known for his famous work “The Teachings of All Ages.” For his writings, he was made an honorary 33rd-degree Freemason.

Sahagun will be speaking with slides and a movie clip. For further information, call 478-9905.
