Diaz takes office as county clerk-recorder

Gregory Diaz, the man who lost an election last year to Nevada County Clerk-Recorder Kathleen Smith, replaced her today after county supervisors appointed him to the post.

Smith resigned this spring after the Board of Supervisors discovered she was moonlighting in a full-time job as city clerk for the delta town of Rio Vista.

Supervisors interviewed Diaz in a public meeting two weeks ago, and this afternoon voted unanimously to appoint the former clerk-recorder from San Francisco County.

Diaz then climbed the stairs to his new office.

Check back for updates later today.
