Diaz has my vote

It turns out that you can learn a lot about someone’s character from watching them in a writing workshop. Olivia Diaz attended my classes for two years. During that time I saw her listen to other people’s opinions, take suggestions, ask questions when she needed more information, learn new skills, and produce a well-crafted memoir.

Her stamina when the going got tough was impressive: she didn’t stop when she felt discouraged. She was organized and diligent: she always had new work to show us each week. I think she’s going to behave this way as a supervisor for Nevada County, too. People don’t change their inherent characteristics.

In addition, as a long-time small-business proprietor I know Olivia supports one of my main concerns: the balancing of business interests with care and preservation of our natural terrain. I think she has the skills to negotiate a real alliance among disparate factions, and I think she can do this without fostering the kind of acrimony I see more and more in the county. She’ll have my vote in November.
