Devote next weekend to gypsy dancers and beer

The fourth annual Gypsy Soul dance performance benefit for Nevada City School of the Arts will be Aug. 23-24.

Both performances start at 7 p.m. at the Nevada Theatre in Nevada City.

The performances include African, tango, flamenco, modern, jazz, Latin and Indian dances.



As in past years, Natina Pistone is artistic director.

Admission is $10 in advance, $13 at the door and $8 for children. All proceeds go to the School of the Arts. Tickets are at Herb Shop Records and Odyssey Books.

More than 30 microbreweries will be at the 14th annual Sierra Brewfest on Aug. 24 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

Beer vendors will serve more than 75 different beers, from wheat lagers and amber ales to stouts. Tastings are unlimited.

The brewfest, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., is one of Music in the Mountains’ largest annual fund-raisers.

Bob Mora and the Third Degree Blues Band will again entertain. Food vendors will serve sausages, barbecue, roasted corn, ice cream, wine, soft drinks and other treats.

Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the gate and $5 for designated drivers. Group tickets of four or more receive one free designated driver ticket.
