Derald Goforth

Derald Donovan Goforth died Feb. 18 in Nevada City. He was 85.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m., Friday, Feb. 22, at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 22, at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Pastor Charles Smith will officiate.

Mr. Goforth was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Creston, Iowa, to Lowel and Opal Snyder Goforth. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He worked as a machinist for 32 years at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo.



Mr. Goforth was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nevada City, the American Legion and Elks of Nevada City. He enjoyed square dancing.

Mr. Goforth is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Jean Goforth, of Nevada City; sons James Goforth, of Southern California and Jeffry Goforth, of Roseberg, Ore.; daughter, Sandra Lally, of Southern California; grandchildren Todd, Shanna, Lacey and Lindsey; great-grandchildren Kelsy, Gavin and Justin and numerous nieces and nephews.




Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
