Del Oro celebrates grand opening

Del Oro Theatre visitors will receive some treats Oct. 7, including live music and movie previews, during the theater’s free grand opening.

The grand opening celebrates almost one year of improvements to the building and the first lighting in more than 15 years of the renovated Del Oro tower.

Improvements included replacing the roof, repairing the heating and air conditioning systems, installing DTS surround sound in the main auditorium and adding new seats.

From 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 7, Butch Minor’s swing band will play in the main auditorium while the Djunkyard Gypsies Band will play outside on Mill Street. Movie previews will play continuously in the two upstairs theatres.

Popcorn, soda and candy – along with a variety of movie-related prizes such as buttons, T-shirts and mini posters – will be given away throughout the evening. All attendees will be entered into a drawing for dinners, movie tickets and other prizes donated by Grass Valley businesses.

The grand opening ceremony and tower lighting is at 7 p.m.

In keeping with the era of the Del Oro’s construction, visitors are encouraged to dress in 1940s attire.

The Del Oro Theatre is at the corner of Mill and Neal streets.
