Dean Hemenway

Memorial services for Dean L. Hemenway of Yuma, Ariz. were conducted Monday, Jan. 3, at Trinity Methodist Church in Yuma, Ariz.

Mr. Hemenway died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, in Yuma, Ariz. He was 79.

He was born March 15, 1925, in Oelwein, Iowa. He retired in 1979, after 18 years as a Right-Of-Way Agent for Caltrans. He purchased major portions of land for Highway 99, Interstate 5, and all of the land for the O’Neil Forbay and San Luis Canal, which brings water to California by way of the California Aqueduct. In 1965 he was hired by Westlands Water District and served as Chief Land Agent. He was a member of the Sierra Presbyterian Church in Grass Valley.



He is survived by his wife, Leona Hemenway; sons Dean L. Hemenway Jr. of Dublin, Bradley Hemenway of Sacramento, and Craig Hemenway of Madera Ranchos; sister, Shirley Cron of Bakersfield; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
