Deadline for election filing today

Deadlines are arriving to file as a candiate for Nevada County primary elections.

In a recent development, Terry Lamphier, former Grass Valley planning commissioner, filed his papers to run against District 3 County Supervisor incumbent John Spencer only two days before today’s deadline.

Today is the deadline to file as a candidate for a Nevada County office for which the incumbent is running. The deadline is extended to March 15 for offices for which the incumbent is not running.

The Nevada County Superior Court first district judgeship race is also heating up, as veteran Judge Carl Bryan announced he would not be seeking re-election. Four candidates have already announced their intentions to fill his seat: Michael G. Colantuono, Ray Shine, Bob Litchfield, Jr., and Thomas Anderson.

The District 4 Board of Supervisor contest is also lacking an incumbent, as Robin Sutherland has said she will not seek re-election. Three candidates have filed to run for the seat: Martin Harmon, Hank Weston and Gordon Beatie.

More candidates may file for both Superior Court Judge and District 3 Supervisor, as the deadline for a race without an incumbent is March 15.

The list of candidates available today is still pending certification, said County Clerk and Recorder Kathleen Smith.
