David Harper

Graveside services for David J. Harper of Allen, Okla., will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Allen Cemetery in Allen, Okla. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conducted military honors and The Rev. Buddy Drake will officiate. Family and friends may call the Criswell Funeral Home in Allen, Okla., (888) 275-5899, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Mr. Harper died Wednesday, Dec. 11. He was 68.



He was born on Aug. 19, 1934, in Big Spring, Texas, to William Anton and Florence (Wilson) Harper. He was raised and attended school in Big Spring, Texas. He was a resident of Grass Valley before moving to Allen, Okla., in 1988. He was a truck driver for Blair Excavators for 20 years. He married Alberta “Penny” Hawkins on July 5, 1958, in Reno, Nev. He was a member of the Baptist church and of the Teamsters Union since 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and received the Good Conduct Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Alberta “Penny” Harper of Allen, Okla.; sons David Leon Harper and Donald Harper, both of Allen, Okla.; brothers Edward Harper of Antioch, Sam and Clyde Harper, both of San Pablo; sister, Sarah Evans of San Pablo; and four grandchildren.




He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Hicks; sister, Katherine Rushing; brother, Willard Harper; his parents; and one grandson.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Criswell Funeral Home in Ada, Okla.
