Dancers debut new style

Movement Conspiracy Alliance (Contemporary Dance Theatre) will present its new show, “Light Waves,” at Center for the Arts tonight and Friday.

More than 25 local dancers and choreographers have collaborated on the 11/2 hour production.

“This is our debut. We really want to create an awareness of modern and contemporary dance within the community,” said choreographer Theresa Honaker.

Accompanying her are fellow choreographers Lovie Bucknell, Marni Marshall, Marianne Reagan and the Glass Bead Players dance company.

The dancers will display the new moves to the musical likes of Beck, the Lounge Lizards, Paurl Walsh, London Honaker-Thomas and Jay W. Sydeman, to name a few.

Each piece lasts about 25 minutes. Honaker hopes the audience will see something unique in a style of dance she says is fairly new to the Nevada County performing arts scene.

“We would like the show to expose the community to the type of dance that we do,” said Honaker.

The show is a benefit for Center for the Arts.
