Washington incident ends in arrest

A man who reportedly kept a Washington couple holed up in their trailer as he attempted to break in and threatened to stab them with a knife was arrested on a number of charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, Tuesday.

The female victim called 911 at about 10:15 a.m. to report that her son — who reportedly was having a psychotic break and hearing voices — had been holding her and her boyfriend hostage since the night before.

The son, identified as Robert Allen Hillmann, 31, had kept them trapped in the trailer and was armed with a knife, and was threatening to kill then, said Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal.

Hillmann reportedly tried to break into the trailer multiple times, even stabbing into the trailer door with the knife.

His mother eventually was able to escape the trailer and obtain help, Royal said.

Hillmann was booked into county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, second-degree burglary, false imprisonment and exhibiting a weapon, and was being held in lieu of $27,500 bail.
