Suspected DUI crash injures 1

A suspected drunken driver crashed his Ford Explorer, rolling it completely over, Monday night on Highway 49 near Cement Hill.

Spencer Louis Foote, 28, was driving at a high rate of speed northbound on the highway at about 11:16 p.m. when he lost control, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Greg Tassone.

Foote went off the east side of the road and hit the embankment, flipping over and landing right side up but facing in the opposite direction, Tassone said.

Foote had no visible injuries but appeared disoriented and was complaining of severe pain. It was not clear whether his disorientation was due to injury or to being under the influence of alcohol, Tassone said.

He was arrested on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and flown to Sutter Roseville Medical Center; he was expected to recover.

The roadway was partially obstructed for two hours while emergency crews and tow trucks worked to clear the scene.

Foote was arrested on a felony DUI charge in 2005, which was reduced to a misdemeanor, according to court records.

And in December 2013, he was involved in a solo-vehicle collision into a tree that sent him to the hospital. The accident was investigated and Foote was evaluated for possible impairment; no charges were filed, however.
