Report of gunshot in residence leads to jail

Deputies responding to a report of a gunshot inside a residence ended up arresting a man on charges of accidentally discharging a gun, and resisting arrest.

According to dispatch reports, the man had shot at his wife with a handgun, in a residence in the 10000 block of Daniels Way at about 11 p.m. Thursday.

Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies responded and could see the man through the window, sitting on the couch and drinking wine, said Lt. Steve Tripp. The woman reportedly was crying while talking on the phone.

The front door reportedly was open, so the deputies entered, Tripp said.

The man appeared to try and grab an unknown object, then came at the deputies in an aggressive fashion.

“He came at the officers with clenched fists,” Tripp said. “He was Tased and a short struggle ensued” before he was handcuffed.

Both the man and the woman were intoxicated, but the discharge of the firearm appeared to be accidental, Tripp said, adding it was fortunate she wasn’t hit.

The man — identified as James Forest Curry, 55 — was arrested on suspicion of willful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and resisting arrest. He was booked and released from county jail on $52,500 bail.
