One suspect arrested, second being sought in Nevada City burglary

One Nevada City man is in custody and a second man is being sought in connection with a residential burglary off Banner Lava Cap Road.

The homeowner reported the burglary, on Pittsburg Road, on March 30 after discovering someone had forced entry through a window screen, said Nevada County Sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Pettitt.

The burglars took a large amount of cash and jewelry, as well as a semi-automatic pistol.

Sheriff’s detectives canvassed the neighborhood and developed information pointing to two possible suspects, Pettitt said.

On Thursday, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 10000 block of Walker Drive, and a number of stolen items were reportedly recovered, including a backpack full of climbing gear and some of the jewelry.

“We confirmed the identity of the suspects and issued a BOLO,” Pettitt said.

Nevada City Police officers located one of the men — Jeromy Jason Stacy, 21 — at about 11:30 p.m. Friday on Sacramento and Zion streets.

Stacy was arrested and booked into county jail on a failure to appear warrant for a prior misdemeanor, as well as on suspicion of first-degree burglary of an inhabited dwelling. He was being held in lieu of $54,000.

The second man — who is not being identified — is still being sought, Pettitt said.
