Nevada County sheriff: Man faces child sex charge, again

Matthew Richard Chapdelane

A teen who made bond months ago on child sex charges is back in jail on new accusations of having sex with a minor, authorities said.

Matthew Richard Chapdelane, 18, of Grass Valley, faces a count of having sex with a minor who’s over three years younger than him. Arrested Tuesday, Chapdelane remained in jail Wednesday on a $500,000 bond, Nevada County Jail records state.

“He committed this crime while out on bail,” Sheriff Keith Royal said.

Deputies arrested Chapdelane after the girl’s mother called authorities within the past few days, Royal added.

According to Royal, the girl complained to her mother about feeling ill. After being asked for details, the girl said that she’d had sex with Chapdelane at the Bear River.

The new accusations came almost three months after authorities arrested Chapdelane on child sex charges involving a different victim, Royal said.

In that case Chapdelane is accused of having sex with a minor in January. Someone learned about it and contacted authorities, the sheriff said.

Chapdelane was arrested in May and quickly made his $10,000 bond, reports state.

Chapdelane faces charges of oral copulation with someone under 18, sexual penetration with someone under 18, sex with a minor who’s over three years younger and two child pornography charges, jail reports stated.
