Kidnap suspect arrested in Nevada County

A man suspected of kidnapping his romantic rival at gunpoint in Yuba County was arrested without incident by Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday.

Joshua Devon Herrera, 26, was being sought by Yuba County law enforcement after the reported kidnapping, said Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Smethers.

Herrera allegedly confronted the other man and forced him into his vehicle, holding him at gunpoint.

The man was able to jump from the vehicle at Parks Bar Bridge, fled and then got help from some people four-wheeling in the area, Smethers said.

A be-on-the-lookout advisory was issued by the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office, and local law enforcement developed information that Herrera was at a residence in Penn Valley.

Sheriff’s detectives set up a surveillance of the residence and spotted Herrera Tuesday morning, heading to a gas station at Penn Valley Drive and Highway 20. He subsequently was detained after deputies made a traffic stop on Highway 20 between Penn Valley and Grass Valley, Smethers said.

Herrera was turned over to Yuba County Sheriff’s deputies, but further information on the charges he is facing there was not available as of press time.
