Camptonville man arrested on DUI charges

A Camptonville man reportedly had an estimated blood alcohol content of one and a half times the legal limit when he crashed his truck Thursday morning, sending his passenger to a Roseville hospital.

Joseph Clayton Sullivan, 30, was driving northbound on Highway 49 and was less than 1,000 feet from the South Yuba River crossing when he lost control of his Toyota Tundra at about 2:30 a.m., said California Highway Patrol spokesman Greg Tassone.

Sullivan ran off the right edge of the road heading uphill and crashed almost head-on into the rocky embankment, causing significant damage to the truck, Tassone said.

Sullivan complained only of minor pain and sustained lacerations and a bloody nose. His passenger, a 41-year-old Nevada City man, was flown to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with moderate injuries. He was expected to survive, Tassone said.

The truck was disabled and partially in the roadway; the CHP conducted one-way traffic control and cleared the scene in about an hour.

Sullivan was determined to be under the influence of alcohol, and was taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital for treatment. After being cleared, he was booked into county jail on suspicion of DUI causing bodily injury. He has been released on $85,000 bail.
