Peardale Chicago Park Fire and Ophir Hill Fire crews worked in the You Bet Red Dog area Wednesday where the departments have been partnering with the You Bet, Red Dog Fire Wise Community in constructing a temporary refuge area, according to a release.

In the event of a wildfire, people from all over the community of You Bet and Red Dog, along with people visiting Rollins Lake, can come and take refuge from a fast-moving wildfire at the intersection of You Bet Road and Red Dog Road.

Crews constructed 2,700-feet of hand line around an 8.7-acre area. This is just one of the steps that have been taken to complete this temporary refuge area.

There will be many more work days involving the fire departments and Fire Wise Community in the next few months.
